Bevin: Consider bypass instead of new bridge

Maybe the region doesn’t need a new Brent Spence Bridge.

Leaders should consider a proposed southern bypass to divert traffic off the congested 50-year-old bridge, Kentucky Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Bevin said during a 90-minute meeting Monday with The Enquirer editorial board.

Bevin, a businessman from Louisville, is running against Attorney General Jack Conway, a Democrat.

Both have said they are against tolling the Brent Spence Bridge to pay the $2.6 billion to renovate the old bridge and build a new one alongside it.

Few statewide candidates have come out in favor of tolling when they’re in Northern Kentucky.
